True Blood

I've read Bram Stoker's Dracula, own every episode of Buffy on DVD, and couldn't get enough of the Lee/Cushing Hammer Dracula films growing up. But I refuse to see Twilight. Even when it comes to vampires, one has to have standards. Thus far I've only watched the first four episodes of True Blood which is showing in the UK on the FX Channel, but it's already become a firm favourite in my household. I suppose I could order the season one box set and gorge myself on Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball's latest, and yet there's something to be said for rationing myself to an episode a week.

It might not be Six Feet Under, but hot damn is True Blood a lot of fun. With you on Twilight however. Not even Kristen Stewart will get me to go there...

With both Cirque du Freak, Daybreakers, Let Me In and the TV series of The Strain on the horizon (not to mention Dark Shadows, of course), the vampire resurrection doesn't seem to be going to dust anytime soon.

What did you think of The Strain?

I'm already well into series 2 and loving every minute. It's a great mix of sex, drugs & vampires with some comedy thrown in from Sookie's brother Jason, who weirdly used to be in Home & Away! I recommend it to everyone I know!

And Stephen Moyer, I've since discovered, was born in Essex and has appeared in Cold Feet, Peak Practice and Casualty.

To be honest, I've been 3/4 of the way through for the past six weeks and can't bring myself to finish it. I get too wrapped up in novels...

PS "With both"? Way to fail at counting, me...

I made it through. It's a CSI version of Stoker's Dracula with lots of set up for parts two and three. But it held my attention. Definitely see it as a TV series which, of course, it was originally meant to be.

When I am reading The Strain, I definitely picture a Fringe-esque show; CSI version of Stoker's Dracula is a spot on description.

As for True Blood - I watched the pilot ep when it leaked forever ago and, well, I clearly had no idea what to expect because I didn't like it too much. But now I think I can go back to it and enjoy it for what it ACTUALLY is. I am planning on watching the 2nd ep tonight. Not that I actually need another tv show to watch....
