Yes, I've seen it. And yes, it's amazing

I'm talking about Sweeney Todd here, in case you're wondering. I wasn't going to say anything but since others have gone and gushed, I thought I'd join them. I don't want to go into many details right now, but it's as good as you've heard. And bloody too.

Fantastic news, Mark! January cannot come soon enough!

Any clues as to how you would rate it compared to the rest of Burton's oeuvre?

Gerard, it's very good, very good indeed, but I don't want to compare it to what's gone before because a) everyone has their own benchmark Burton and b) I'd like to see it again. But, it's definitely up there with the best of them. I really, really loved it. And I wanted to see it again immediately.

Good enough for me!

You are not just saying it's amazing because you did the companion book are you? I'm not trying to be mean, but if someone's mother says their kid is cute, that seems like an obvious response.

Of course he wouldn't! It's not his movie after-all, and I believed he has voiced his not-so-favoring opinion about a certain other Burton film he did a book for. If I'm wrong then you may say so Mark, and I apologize - I just believe I remember reading this.

Gina, you are indeed correct, I also wrote the Planet Of The Apes companion book but I've stated both on this site and elsewhere that I'm not a fan of that movie, despite seeing it three times at the cinema.

I make no secret of the fact that I love Tim's films and will readily argue the case that I think Mars Attacks is a work of genius, or that Big Fish is hugely underrated, but if I don't like something I don't like it, and I'll say so.

As I said in my post, I wasn't going to say anything at all about having seen Sweeney early, but it was only when other sites started reviewing the film that I thought I'd mention it here, simply because I know that the Burton/Depp fans out there who are regular visitors would want to know a) whether I'd seen it and b) if I had, what I thought about it.

Also, the opinion so far has been overwhelming positive (see: aint it cool, Cinefantastique, EW) and my very brief statement echoed that. It wasn't as if my "it's amazing" was going against the flow.
