Now that's what I call a teaser

This teaser for David Fincher's The Social Network popped up online last night. It's a brilliant example of the art of tease, very old school in its approach, and most welcome in this age of shouty trailers. It's so good it could be a marketing masterclass: How do you make a film about Facebook interesting to audiences? Here's how...

Well I certainly agree that it's an interesting trailer, but does it not ultimately misrepresent the end product. I watched the trailer prior to reading your accompanying text.

I thought (erroneously) that this was going to be about some social network app that was subverted by big corporations or became sentient and started "doing" things. I was hoping for a hi-tech thriller or some bizarre web themed horror.

Nope, a simple wikipedia/IMDB search shows that it's just a bio-epic. Sure Facebook is a interesting subject but surely a matter more suited to a BBC 2 documentary?

I guess the moral of the story is, do your research before watching the trailer.

I like the trailer, and I like the poster. Then again, I like the DVD that (surely) 'inspired' the poster:

@ Roger

I have faith in Fincher. Under his direction, I'm sure it's going to be much more than a biopic. I've also avoided reading the script because I want to go into this fresh...

@ Adam

Well spotted, my good man.

I always avoid trailers and clips, but Fincher seems to strike gold every second film, so let expectations be sky high!

I thought that poster looked familiar but couldn't place it. I'm still convinced that the poster from Shane Acker's 'Nine' was heavily influenced by the poster from Todd Haynes' 'Safe' (and given the general look of the characters in 'Nine', the influence may have come much earlier). But then again, I could be bonkers.

I have to admit, there are similarities...
