As for the ending... well, there was much screaming in the cinema. But that's what happens when a group of early teenage girls sneak into an R rated horror movie. They will be scared. And they will scream. Loudly.
This film fumbles the ball at two key points. Firstly, when we get the initial verification of paranormal activity (via the Ouija board) we get far too much. Subtlety and atmosphere suffer as a result.
Secondly, further credibility is lost when the boyfriend finds a convenient source of information that not only clarifies the entire plot line but again shows far to much supernatural activity to be taken seriously. Even within the context of in film suspension of disbelief.
The boyfriend character is singularly unlikeable, with a bellicose attitude.
The ending I saw was the original one which compared to what had proceeded, was low key and good. The new ending is pure showboating and less effective.
The film is well constructed and applicable to the You Tube generation. It may be functional, but good? That is another issue.
