He appeared in a few great films, and some mediocre ones, but whatever you think about Swayze the actor, 57 is too young, and pancreatic cancer is a dreadful way to go. RIP.

What sad news, I have great childhood memories of his films, Point Break still being up there as one of my favourite films of all time "Bodhi, this is your f**king wake-up call man. I am an F, B, I, Agent!"
Yeah, Swayze was quite good in DONNIE DARKO but for me his signature film will always be POINT BREAK. He brought a lot of class and completed dedication to the pulpy material. "If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love."
I'm with Lloyd and J.D. in that it's Point Break I think of when I think of Swayze. Completely forgot he was in Donnie Darko, but now that you mention it, he was great in that too.
As for Hurt Locker, if you want to see it on the big screen you better be quick. I fear it's not going to be around for much longer. If indeed it still is...
Never seen Road House either, but I've heard good things. Still sticking with Point Break, it's a real cult film for me & mates, we're always quoting it! Loved it when 'Hot Fuzz' gave it the credit it always deserved!

Road House is the ultimate b-grade action flick. I'll make a point to track down Point Break. I always manage to forget that was Bigelow. Near Dark's what I've always remembered her for.
The Region 1 SE DVD of ROAD HOUSE features a hilarious audio commentary by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier who alternately champion and affectionate roast the film. Very funny stuff.
Point Break has some great stunts but the reason it doesn't work is that there is no dramatic tension at all. Just a load of visceral thrills strung together. Road House on the otherhand has cheesy fight scenes but dramatically is a note perfect film. Obviously Dirty Dancing is his signature piece but for the boys it has to be Road House. Love the scene when he pushes Kelly Lynch up against the wall of his barn.

I was convinced Darko marked the beginning of a Swayze resurgence. One that I still wish had happened...

Still waiting for my DVD to arrive. Ordered the US deluxe edition with the Smith/Mosier chat track.
