This One's From The Heart

This is my favourite song from a movie. What's yours?

That's a difficult choice to make... but i would say that my favorite is The Blower's daughter, by Damien Rice, at the beginning (and at the end) of Closer, by Mike Nichols... but i guess i pick this one because i'm listenning to it right now, so i can't think of anything else!

Another very good choice. And equally evocative.

God, I could not answer that definitively, but excluding musicals and musical numbers, tonight I'd say the use of The Velvet Underground's Oh! Sweet Nuthin' in High Fidelity would be favourite of the week, though I was listening to it earlier. But there are other more obvious choices I'm presently failing to see...

I do struggle to think of an excellent instance of one of my favourite artists' tracks being used in a film, however. Why won't somebody give me a huge sack of cash so I can make make a film and make it happen myself? Slow Nerve Action by The Flaming Lips is DYING for an iconic use on screen...

Down In Mexico by the Coasters in Death Proof was awesome. You have to hand it to QT. His musical selections, for me anyway, are indicitive of his movie making style.

can't get the song outta my head.

I know what you mean. Heard Stuck In The Middle with You on the radio today and immediately thought of ear-slicing. His soundtrack selections remain top-notch even if I'm tiring of the movies.

I have only a distant memory of High Fidelity (the movie, as opposed to the book), so will bow to you regarding that one.

It's one of my favourite films (and books). Though I think that choice was much more influenced by my having just had the song on. It's basically just there in the background but has always added a nice emotional kick for me. So that was a silly choice.

I can tell you this though. For a film released in the past twelve months, it's Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan in Zodiac.

Tom Waits' "Please Call Me Baby" from Edward Norton's "Keeping the Faith." This is sad to say because the music in this movie is fabulous. Wish I could say that about the movie itself. I just adore Norton.

The use of "Making Time" by Creation in Wes Anderson's Rushmore accompanying a montage of all the extracurricular clubs Max Fischer belongs to. A fantastic marriage of music with imagery.

Anderson has got fabulous taste for music. The soundtrack to Rushmore is rather terrific.
