Can. Not. Wait.

What a way to start Year Two: a shot of Depp as Dillinger. These things are poping up online like wildfire. The combination of star and director really has me excited. But I hope Mann's not shooting this one on HiDef. It feels like this is one movie that should be film.

Love this shot! And couldn't agree more about hoping for film...

Depp? Bale? Mann? I'm there. Not to mention, according to the IMDB, Dante Spinotti is the DP on this one and, IMO he's done the best job shooting Mann's films to date -- MANHUNTER, HEAT, THE INSIDER... even THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS was beautiful to look at.

Agreed. (re: on film)
I signed up for Johnny Depp and Public Enemies Google alerts but have just now gotten rid of them because as you said, coverage over this is insane. So I'll just stick to your updates and Gerard's.

I'm with you j.d. regarding Spinotti. I've seen all of his work with Mann on the big screen, including Manhunter, and it's just outstanding, although I do also love what Lubezki's did on Ali.

Mark: I certainly agree with you re: Ali. That was a beautifully shot film and a very underrated (and misunderstood) effort in Mann's filmography. But there is something special when he and Spinotti team-up. I can't wait to see what they come up with for this new film.
