Now available on DVD for US viewers as part of a Michael Powell double feature,
A Matter Of Life And Death is a life-affirming masterpiece and should be essential viewing for everyone, committed film fan or casual viewer. I first saw it on TV as a very young boy and for years thought I'd dreamed this film that was partly in black and white, partly in colour, and it was only in my teens when I realised I hadn't, although it does have a very dreamlike quality. If you haven't seen it, shame on you. Get yourself a copy immediately.

Ha ha, I will, as soon as the snow allow me to take a bus to go to HMV!
I am unfamiliar with this film and will get to watching it as soon as possible! Thanks for the rec, Mark.
It will light up your life in so many ways.
Arguably the most accessible film in the Archer's canon. Out of the 'artier' films I'm rather partial to the TALES OF HOFFMAN.
Powell was a genius-have you read his autobiography? He led an incredibly interesting life, his career however shamefully cut short by the controversy over PEEPING TOM.
I'm also very fond of I Know Where I'm Going and Colonel Blimp.
I have to confess I haven't read Powell's book (although I do have a copy somewhere) but I have read Ian Christie's Arrows Of Desire.
