Next for the remake treatment...

This got me to thinking - do you think more movies will be shot like this and Cloverfield? It'll basically be the new phenomenon like the dirty, cheap comedies have been for some years now (though, this probably won't die out any time soon because of the more witty hits lately). At least for scary films, anyway. I know why Blair Witch didn't inspire this, definitely was a one time thing for the sake of the "true story". But there's Cloverfield - a monster movie, this - a remake scare film, and then there's that other remake with Dexter's Carpenter.

Blegh. I hate trends. You anticipate when they'll be over just as soon as they begin. (Come on, reality TV, you are long overdue.)

And there's the new George Romero zombie movie, Diary Of The Dead. As long as the central conceit remains strong, I don't see why they can't continue using the video format. It worked with [REC], it worked with Cloverfield and it seems to work here, too. But I'm not sure it'll work for Cloverfield 2 which is in the pipeline.

Have you seen this Mark? Colour me intrigued...

Nope. Haven't seen it. And it looks like we might have to wait for the DVD of the remake to come out, and this will be an extra on it.

I hope that was a world weary and sarcastic comment on the present state of the Hollywood machine and the frequent inability of tiny films to find distribution than legitimate fact, or I'm going to be sad...

It seems as if the original is going to go direct to DVD in the US, but hopefully we'll see it theatrically overseas.
