Monday musing

Season 5 of Lost began here in the UK last night and continued the high standard of season 4. You can tell they're pleased to have an end date now, as there's less tease and more WTF revelations.

With its flashforwards, "three years earlier/later" time frames, confirmed time travel, time skipping, Jack's rehabilitation of sorts, Ben Linus' murky machinations, Ana-Lucia's ghostly cop, the hint that maybe Locke might not necessarily be dead dead, it was a masterful opening two episodes. Once again, EW.com's Jeff Jensen provides a fine commentary

All of which meant I recorded but have yet to see Wire creator David Simon's latest Generation Kill, although that's going to have to wait until another day since I'm at the BFI Southbank tonight watching Encounters At The End Of The World followed by a Q&A with Werner Herzog.

Should be interesting...

I really liked those new Lost episode. Moving through time and space is indeed a very good hook, and can explain quite a lot! I liked the all 'special' Desmond thing too!

I saw Grizzly Man during Christmas... so I can imagine Encounters At The End Of The World as being as original!

Enoy Encounters - I missed my chance to catch it mid last year at the MIFF over here and, as far as I know, it doesn't seem to have had a proper theatrical run over here yet. Let us know how it is - I'm very keen to check it out but haven't been sure if it's worth buying from Amazon unseen...

Alas, Gerard, I had too much work to go in the end. Much to my regret. But I hear the film's good.

Indeed! Lost's s5 opener was fantastic. My sister hasn't caught up yet so it was hard to explain my excitement about specific happenings. It was nice to see that a theory of mine from a year or so ago is turning out to be true. I think anyway. (Having to do with an object you can find in the first shot of Jack waking up in the series' first episode [yes, in season one] and something we see Ben holding in the desert last season.)

And don't you hate how this show makes you feel like you finally understand a lot of things but then when you think about it, it actually just makes you question how THOSE things are even possible in the first place? Oy vey...

I know the two objects are SLIGHTLY different in their appearance (or maybe not and Ben doesn't have the part we see next to Jack out), but it still seems incredibly significant. So...the Jack we see in this first shot of season one is actually time-traveling Jack saving them all. Though, the scratches being there are a bit confusing. Hm, maybe the time-traveling Losties actually come across Jack before he wakes up and then are surprised and drop the object when they run away? heh Who knows!! And regardless - very intriguing, no?

And as that guy doing the commentary, sharing his thoughts/theories, said... the time-traveling Losties are those whispers we always hear. I like that theory. Thought it all is still very confusing.

I'm all for outrageous theories but those photos seem to be stretching it a bit too far. Having said that, I wouldn't put anything past these guys.

And I like the whispers notion, too.

Hope to get into episode 3 on the blog later...
